Log Furniture

Author: Peter Emerson

For people who have large ceilings and spacious rooms, selecting suitable furniture does become a problem. In places where people love the rustic look, log furniture is the obvious choice. Log furniture carries a completely different look than normal furniture. It comes in various shapes and sizes, and may not be symmetrical in look. It is simple, elegant and bold, and carries a natural beauty. Beautiful designs and aesthetics have made log furniture so popular.

Log furniture is made from red cedar, steam-bent hickory and northern white cedar. These woods are heavy, insect-resistant, rot-resistant and long-lasting. With time, they get more integrated with their surroundings. Sometimes, natural cracks can be found in log furniture. This occurs naturally in the drying process, and adds to the rustic look of the products. These cracks do not diminish the function or design of the furniture, and are not manufacturing defects. They are just a natural part of seasoning, enhancing the beauty of the wood. The best part about wood is that it breathes and dries easily. Hence, no humidity collects on the surface of the wood, which keeps it long-lasting.

All kinds of furniture can be carved out of wooden logs. This includes beds, tables, and benches, candle bars, railings, etc. Furniture made of logs looks stylish and is comfortable. Some people try to make their own log furniture by learning though magazines or attending workshops. Log furniture has become popular, and there are number of manufacturers who design beautiful furniture from logs.

Buying log furniture requires careful study, and buyers are advised to do research before buying. One should also check the quality of wood used, and its finish if any is applied.
