Romantic Gifts for Valentine's Day (And More!)

Author: L.A. Hunter

Appliances = Foolish

Stuffed Animals = Childish

Card, Flowers, Chocolate = Predictable

Romantic Dinner = Devoted

Personalized Poem or Love Letter = Passionate

Lingerie = Backfire

It's a fool who gives his lover an appliance on Valentine's Day. The only thing worse would be to not acknowledge the day at all. It doesn't matter if she's asking for a new blender; you don't buy it for her on Valentine's Day. There are 361 other good days to give her a new blender. [P.S. 361 days is not a typo, you don't give appliances on her birthday, anniversary, Christmas or Valentine's Day.] Just because a sweeper may not technically be an appliance it does fall under this category along with anything else that makes her work.

If you think because you waited till the last minute to think about her gift that you can just grab a stuffed animal with a heart or "I Love You" written on it, you are being very childish. Unless you're 13 years old, don't even bother wasting your time. Treat her like the woman she is; make Valentine's Day quixotic.

To be just like all the other men out there, give her a bought card, a dozen red roses and a heart shaped box of chocolates that taste like wax. Very predictable and not much thought involved. This is the "responsible" gift. You know you have to give something on this day or you'll be in hot water so you go with the flow and do what everyone else does.

You are truly devoted if you plan a romantic dinner for her. If you're going out for a romantic dinner why not make an evening of it. Go dancing, driving or parking; these are all fun things to do on Valentine's Day. Have fun together, it will make both of you happy.

It's all about you. The one who takes the time to write a love letter or poem is immensely rewarded. With the little effort it takes to write it you score major points. She will remember this gift for a long, long time. Tip - pretty paper or a red felt tip pen with a red or pink envelope, marked SWAK (sealed with a kiss) on the outside will impress. Mail it to her at work or home to arrive on or the day before Valentine's Day.

Some women like lingerie but I wouldn't take that chance. It could backfire and turn a wonderful evening into a downer. She may confuse a gift such as this as an invitation for sex, which in turn could disappoint her because that's all you think about.

If you want to make an impact this year give her a combination of the above gifts, such as a love letter with a dozen roses or a card and a romantic dinner. Don't just go with the flow, branch out and do something distinctive this year. Real or silk rose petals are great for sprinkling on the table at a romantic dinner. Some dipping chocolate and strawberries from the grocery store and a bottle of wine can be an interesting end to an evening or the beginning of a wonderful love affair.
