It's a Cookie Christmas Party!

Author: Gail Leino

Turn this Christmas into a tasty treat with a Cookie Christmas Party! This is a great party to have when there are lots of children at your house for the holidays and it provides plenty of opportunity for kids and adults to snack on a wide range of cookies. You can also use cookies in the decoration and even as ornaments on the trees.

Before the party bake up a couple batches of the easiest cookies you can think of and after theyve cooled wrap groups of two or three in clear or colored cellophane. Tie the cellophane at the top with a ribbon and hang on the Christmas tree as ornaments. You can also hang up other items, like candy canes and popcorn and make your tree edible this year.

Use this cookie Christmas party as a chance to ease the cost of food by having a potluck of sorts. When you send out invitations put on them something like, Cook your favorite cookies and share with us your favored treats, so that guests will know that youd like them to bring over a plate of their favorite or special cookies. Hopefully not everyone will bring over chocolate chip, so youll have some variety, but if they do the kids will still probably snatch them up. You should still set out a few light alternatives for guests who are sugared out. Think about a pickle tray, something sour to counter the sweet, or maybe just some cheese and crackers.

For an activity at your cookie party arrange to have the kids make their own sugar cookies. Youll have to make up a batch of sugar cookie dough beforehand and keep it in the fridge. Set up a nice big table with lots of cookie cutouts and rolling pins. You should have an amount of frosting made up all ready. This can be a basic white frosting and you can have an adult man a set of small cups and food coloring so kids can ask for the color they want when their cookies come out of the oven.
