Before you start shopping for a wig, know what type of wig you should be shopping for. What type of wig should you be shopping for? Well, that depends entirely upon you to be more exact, it depends entirely upon your face shape. There are many decisions that you need to make when choosing a wig do you want a synthetic or human hair wig? What color? An outrageous style or a subtle style? Et cetera. Of course, the most important thing to consider is how a particular hair style will look with your face. You may find a wig that you absolutely love, only to find that it looks ten times better on your friend than it does on you. This is because you and your friend have different face shapes, and different faces can be highlighted and displayed better by different wigs think of your wig as a picture frame, and your face as the picture. The wrong frame can practically ruin a picture, while the right frame can compliment it and make it even better. Here are some ideas as to what to look for, depending on your face shape (remember, these are not hard and fast rules, but they are certainly a place to start). Pear-shaped face If you have a face with a narrow forehead and a wide jawline, you need a wig that will draw attention to the upper part of your face. Find a wig with full and layered locks that add height to the crown of your head. Feel free to go shaggy! A short wig that hits above the jawline is a great pick. Triangular-shaped faced This face shape is similar to the pear-shaped face, only it is widest at the jawline, slightly narrower at the cheeks, and narrowest at the temples. Again, you want to find a wig that will create fullness at the upper part of your face. As the wig approaches your jawline, it should taper off. Heart-shaped face This is practically the opposite of a triangular or pear-shaped face. A person with a heart shaped face as a wide forehead and a small chin. So, as you might have guessed, to compliment this face type, you want to find a wig that is the opposite of the abovementioned wigs you want one that makes the forehead look narrower and the chin look wider. And you can do this by having fullness near the chin. Try out wavy curls or a chin-length bob (without so much layering). Also, consider trying on a wig with bangs you might just love how it looks on you. Round face If you have a round face, feel free to go long! In fact, you do not want to have a wig that ends right at the chinline it will only make your face seem rounder. Also avoid middle parts and straight bangs. Keep your hair straight full on top, straight on the sides, and long. Square face You can soften-up a square face with wispy bangs and flowing layers. Have your hair cut in layers. Try on a curly or wavy haired wig. Again, feel free to long you want to create the illusion of length. Rectangular face As opposed to a person with a square face, a person with a rectangular face should avoid any wigs that are long they will only lengthen her face. Rather, she should look for short or medium-length hair. Try on a layered wig, one with a side part and maybe even some bangs. Do not add height at the crown. Oval face If you have an oval face, you might find that any one of the above mentioned styles of wigs look great. An oval face looks great with long hair and with short hair, wavy and straight, bangs and no bangs. Pretty much, the whole world of wigs is open to you if you have an oval-shaped face! |
