This article isn't the first of it's kind. It won't be the last. The idea is simple enough and I'm sure if you're reading this you've thought of it or heard of it before. So, why should you write articles for web promotion? Let's get some of the basics out of the way. I'm going to assume you know a lot of this already, but for a brief rundown here's why people write articles to promote their website. - Provides backlinks
- You're regarded as an authority in your field
- Free advertising
- Additional traffic
I'll briefly touch on these too as they're pretty straightforward. First, is backlinks. If you look at the bottom of this article you'll see what's called the Resource Box. In it, authors, like myself and you, put a link to their website as well as tell a little about yourself. There's another thing in this Resource Box which I'll get to later. For the purpose of backlinks, that link back to your website helps the search engines see your site as a little bit more important when they spot another site linking back to you. You're regarded as an authority because the subject matter is something you know a lot about, or you wouldn't be writing article about it right? This particularly becomes apparent when an ezine picks up your article and uses it because of their many specialized fields. If another website reposts your article it will most often fall under the Backlink category. Free reprint article websites are a source for constant new content for webmasters, which will get your link around if it goes that direction. Advertising is simple enough. Nothing is free, even on the internet. The cost here is that you, or anyone, can reprint this article BUT everything must be kept intact. This is a trade off as the Resource Box has to go with it, providing the author, me in this case, free advertising for my website. The better and informative your article is the more it will get picked up and provide you more free advertising. Throw away articles and low quality articles don't get picked up by ezines so the better you write your article the more free advertising you'll get. The additional traffic you'll get, at this point, should be a given. If other sites and ezines reprint your article more people will click through to your website. Articles can provide traffic for a long time on their own as they travel around the internet. If it's picked up by a major ezine you could see a huge spike in your site's hits. Alright, now that's out of the way. Onto to some of the smaller aspects of this that can really have a big effect later. Your article title is as important as the article itself. Before writing this article I checked what keywords I expected I'd use through this writing. I found on Google's search engine an openning. What does this mean? Well, the benefits of being reprinted everywhere is great, of course, but with attention to the article title I can increase my chance of this article being indexed in search engines. This will provide another form of free advertising since I won't have to use something like Google Adwords or other Pay Per Click programs to get the same placement in search results a well written article can do for free. So you can follow how this works go back up to my first paragraph. I mentioned the article title in the body of the article as well. For Search Engine Optimization(SEO) purposes this will help the article get ranked higher. A relevant article should always follow, of course. At the time of this writing, and your reading, I don't know if this article is indexed anywhere yet or not. A good way to test to see if go to Google itself and do a search for the title. You can optimize your search for anything you want smply by putting " around your search terms. Refine the search for particular keywords as well. Combined with a good search engine position and the article being reprinted in ezines and article sites it should be easy to see how one can get traffic to their website. Finally, keep writing. The more you do it the better you'll get and the easier it will be to do more. |
