Marketing a Service Club for Community PR

Author: Lance Winslow

Marketing for a Service Club such as the Rotary, Kiwanis, Knights of Columbus, Optimists, Elks, Lions Club or other networking club is similar to marketing for a small or medium sized business or even a franchising company in many ways and then in other ways it is not really. You see in service clubs you are generally recruiting members all the time to do community projects which will help people and that takes a lot of folks to volunteer their spare time in the name of a good cause.

One thing in all my efforts helping the common good in local area service clubs was to constantly make sure that we took advantage of the free newspaper schedule of events and was careful to make sure each and every meeting and event was listed. And I always made sure to invite the newspaper reporters too. Additionally I took advantage of the PSA or Public Service Announcements on the Local Radio Stations, which they are required to do.

But that is not all we did, we often asked to put inserts in the Chamber of Commerce Newsletters and announce the event on the Public Televised City Council Meetings. Often the politicians said they would be there and thus were able to promote us as well. There are many out of the box things you can do to support and promote and market you service club, so think on this in 2006.
